Wolves take on Giants ClubCall challenge
Warrrington Wolves will continue their quest for a first Super League title with a mouth-watering qualifying semi-final against Huddersfield Giants after opting to play the 2013 League Leaders at today's ClubCall announcement.
As the highest ranked club from the opening weekend of the play-offs, Warrington earned the right to select their opponents in the final round of the play-offs.
And with a straight choice between Huddersfield and Leeds Rhinos - the team which dashed their title hope at Old Trafford 12 months ago - Warrington Chairman Steven Broomhead today ClubCalled the Giants for a match that will be played at The Halliwell Jones Stadium on Thursday September 26 (8.00pm).
Their decision means that the other qualifying semi-final sees Wigan Warriors host defending champions Leeds at the DW Stadium on Friday September 27 at 8.00pm. Both ties will be televised live and exclusively on Sky Sports.
Huddersfield will go into the game lifted by the knowledge that the Super League title has been won in each of the last two years by the side that has been ClubCalled.
Two years ago Leeds were chosen by Warrington and came away from The Halliwell Jones Stadium 26-24 winners before going on to beat St Helens 32-16 in the Grand Final.
A year later, Wigan Chairman Ian Lenagan spoke at ClubCall of a ‘dream final' between the Warriors and Warrington before choosing Leeds, who travelled to the DW Stadium and completed a 13-12 victory which they followed up with a 26-18 Old Trafford win against Warrington.
This year's Super League Grand Final will again be staged at Old Trafford, Manchester, on Saturday October 5 (8.00).
Match tickets for the Wolves' Qualifying Semi Final on Thursday are on general sale and are available to purchase in store at WolfWare, from WolfWare Online and on 08448 11 11 76 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm)
