Wolves Secure Funding for the 'People's Stadium'
Warrington Wolves announced at a press conference today (Friday 8th December 2000) that they have secured a funding of ú5 million for the new 'People's Stadium' in Warrington.Warrington Sports Holdings Ltd, the owners of Warrington Wolves have been given six acres of land worth ú4 million, for the stadium site. The agreement between Tesco, Carlsberg - Tetley and Warrington Sports Holdings was formalised at the beginning of the week.The deal and future of the club as a Super League entity is dependent on backing from the Government for the Warrington Borough Council's approval of the plan for a Tesco Extra store and a 12,000 capacity stadium on the former Tetley walker brewery site on Winwick Road, Warrington.The only obstacle in the club's bid for the new state of the art stadium is planning approval. A decision on the new stadium from Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott's office is hoped before Christmas.
