Wolves One Community Showcase
The Halliwell Jones Stadium opened its doors to a showcase of Rugby League at the weekend.
Warrington Wolves, in association with the Wolves Charitable Foundation, hosted the club's first One Community Fun Day on Saturday 17th August.
The event invited junior clubs from across the town to take part in a festival and included teams from local amateur sides Crosfields, Woolston Rovers and Rylands Sharks. Juniors aged between seven and nine competed on the hallowed turf of their Wolves heroes with Rylands coming out as winners in both the under-7s and under-9s tournaments.
The celebration of Rugby League within Warrington continued into the afternoon when nine adult teams went head-to-head in a Touch Rugby competition. The line-up included teams of Wolves' office staff and Charitable Foundation representatives as well as teams from across rugby clubs, local businesses including 1895 Sports, Omega Access North Ltd and more. It was ‘The Kiwis' who went away with the spoils.
The event culminated with presentations to the competing teams and a Race Night in aid of the Wolves Charitable Foundation and Rugby League Development in Warrington.
Lee Westwood, Wolves' community coach and event organiser, said: "We were delighted to see that the weather didn't dampen anyone's spirits. Both children and adults alike highlighted the passion we have for Rugby League within our town. The smiles on the children's faces and the skills on display is a real positive for the future of our club and the game within Warrington. The recently launched ‘One Community' programme aims to strengthen our community game by working together to create a stronger environment to play and develop, and this event once again brought everyone together. To play on the pitch at The Halliwell Jones Stadium is a dream come true for those who competed and it is events like these that will hopefully spark even more interest in our great game and spread the word even further. I would like to pass on my thanks to all the teams that competed, the volunteers, referees and all those who came along to show their support. We hope you enjoyed the day."
