Warrington mark RLWC2013 milestone with Gala Dinner
Warrington marked Rugby League World Cup 2013 milestone with a charity gala dinner at The Halliwell Jones Stadium last week.
The home of Warrington Wolves hosted the evening which celebrated the 100 days to go until tournament kick-off.
Over 100 guests attended the evening run in aid of the town's RLWC2013 Legacy Fund, which will support future sport and physical activity projects in Warrington.
The dinner was compered by Sky Sports Brian Carney and guest speakers included Wolves' winger Chris Riley, St Helens duo Paul Wellens and Jon Wilkin plus Widnes captain Jon Clarke who provided an insight into the sport of Rugby League both at club and International level.
In addition to the above, guests enjoyed a three-course meal, served by stadium caterers the Lindley Group, plus a raffle and auction which helped to raise valuable funds.
The evening helped to raise circa £4000 for the Legacy Fund and all those involved would like the thank guests for their support and donations on the night.
Jan Souness, chair of Warrington's RLWC2013 steering group, said: "On behalf of the steering group I would like to say a massive thank you to all those who contributed to making the gala dinner a resounding success. It was an honour to welcome such high profile guest speakers in the world of Rugby League and their passion for the sport certainly came through. A lot of hard work has gone on behind the scenes to ensure that Warrington makes this international tournament a memorable occasion for everyone involved. The support shown for the gala dinner proves that people within the town are on board and we cannot wait for the tournament build-up to gain momentum as we count down to welcoming Samoa and New Zealand come October."
Andy Gatcliffe, Wolves' chief executive, said: "Warrington Wolves were delighted to host the evening at The Halliwell Jones Stadium. It is now less than 100 days until we welcome Samoa and New Zealand for their group match and the excitement is certainly building within the club and town. The gala dinner was a huge success and was testament to the hard work put in by the members of the steering group. We hope that this launch event will now get the ball rolling as we build up to the world-class event here in our town. Warrington supporters are second to none and I am sure will support the tournament in huge numbers come the end of the year."
