Smith: No mean feat
Wolves head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith was pleased with last night's win over current league leaders Huddersfield Giants in such adverse weather conditions.
"It was tough in a good, old, traditional winter Rugby League way. It was probably good the cameras weren't here as they wouldn't have been able to see it at times. (laughs)
"We must compliment everyone out there, that means both sides and officials, it was extreme there tonight - everybody appreciated that. Even sitting in the stands was difficult. Out on the field they did put their bodies on the line and our boys handled it exceptionally well. It was a good evening in that we came through it pretty much unscathed at first look and we are grateful about that. The danger is in those sorts of slippery games that you can pick up injuries. Fortunately we don't think we have."
And on the players' performances.
"Hodgson read it well and he's a good pro on and off the field. He did well there tonight at the right times and with the right sort of plays. He was well supported too - our defensive effort was enormous there tonight. I thought those big boys in the middle did a fantastic job - Carvell comes up with 35 tackles and it's been a while since he's done that kind of game time and come up with those sort of stats; Woody was up there and Hill too so thought they did a great job - then some fast, strong backs came in and took advantage of it.
"We got some enjoyment out of keeping them try-less, which is no mean feat."
