Smith: End-to-End Stuff
Wolves' head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith was delighted with the win last night over local rivals Wigan Warriors.
"I thought all the way through either team was capable of winning that game. What I would say is that Wigan had enough ball to win four games; the amount of defence we went through was enormous... It was a good game of Rugby League; end-to-end stuff, entertaining, tough, very very physical and a great advert for our sport. There was a fantastic crowd; really good for a Monday night advert I thought. That was the sort of standard Rugby League should be played at.
"For the enormous amount of time they (Wolves) had to defend on their own line I thought it showed great commitment and they were terrific; when you've got the likes of Sam Tomkins, with something special around that part of the field, you have to be on your game to not concede a whole lot of points. To keep them to the points that we did there, with the amount of ball they had on our line was a enormous effort. I was hoping in the second half we might even it up a bit defensively though.
"I think it was good for us to come from behind as well....Quite often we are ahead in games; teams may well come back towards us and we'd stay in front but it's not often we have to come from behind and I think that was a good exercise for us. I am pleased about that."
