Poching: A Really Good Match-Up
As the squad turns its attention to Super League and Hull KR we catch up with first team coach Willie Poching for a review of the team’s last outing and a look ahead to Sunday.
“We were really pleased with the performance (v Huddersfield) and pleased for the boys that they progressed through as it was a tough challenge. There were some trying conditions with the heat and the opposition we had to play against but we did a good job and everyone is proud of each other.”
Currently sitting in third position on the league table, just two points adrift from the top spot, the Wolves still need to maintain their composure and pressure at the top end of Super League.
“We are a team that prepares week to week for the challenge ahead. That’s what we’ve got to do again. We’ve had a look at, and reviewed, the Huddersfield game and gone over it and discussed some of the issues we needed to fix, highlighting some of the good stuff we did too, but we are now turning our attention to Hull KR and a return to the league. It’s going to be a tough challenge. They come here on the back of five wins and they know they’ve got us once already this year all be it in different circumstances as far as conditions and time of year. They will come here full of confidence and pose a lot of dangers; they have a very big, strong, powerful forward pack but also other dangerous players in Michael Dobson, Travis Burns and Cory Paterson on that left edge is a very dangerous ball player and did a very good job against us last time. There are a lot of people and areas we need to be aware of.
“They will be looking to solidify their position and try and get themselves in a position a bit higher for the play offs. They have a lot to play for this week as have we. We’ve a lot of competition and a chance to stay in touch with the front-runners in Super League. It will be a really good match-up on the weekend.”
And on the support over the last few weeks on home soil: “They are a great crowd and give us great support both home and away. It’s been nice to be here (at home) three weeks in a row. Hopefully they will turn out in their numbers again as they have really played their part in getting these last couple of wins.”
