PICTURES ADDED: Ugly is Beautiful: Last minute Hicks conversion gives Warrington a massive win - HULL 22 WOLVES 24

Chris Hicks converted Matt King's 79th minute try to send the Wolves players and staff into raptures on the touchline and, in turn, the small Wire contingent behind the sticks. The points look destined to be staying in Hull until King's last minute try. Further Wolves tries came from Briers and a Kevin Penny brace. A dogged and sometimes ugly Wolves performance paid dividends for Coach James Lowes. FULL REPORT NOW ONLINE

Warrington went into today's fixture on Humberside without Andy Bracek who was a late withdrawal through injury. This meant Adrian Morley alongside Martin Gleeson were required to play two games in 72 hours.

James Lowes gave Matty Blythe his first start in Warrington colours and Mike Cooper made his first team comeback after being out since May 2007. The game was something of a damp squib during the pointless opening 12 minutes, not helped by a torrential downpour.

Warrington's kicking game was off key during the opening period with Hull having the better of the play. Berrigan opened the scoring for Hull on 14 minutes after Yeaman took advantage of a Riley missed tackle to send in the FC hooker who aqua planed over. Tickle added the extras.

Wolves struck back 6 minutes later when Penny intercepted Washbrook's looping pass to race 90 metres to score under the FC posts. Hicks added the easy two.

Warrington continued to grind away at Hull FC, Louis Anderson standing out in the second row with his huge 80 minute stint. Gleeson interchanged with Harrison in the unfamiliar position of loose forward.

Hicks attempted to take advantage of Hull's indiscipline but his 25th minute penalty sailed wide, luckily not an omen of things to come. Berrigan grabbed his second score barging over from close range under the sticks. Tickle added the easy conversion on 28 minutes.

The score stayed at 12 ' 6 into the break, but Wolves lost Paul Rauhihi on 39 minutes after he was sin binned for dissent for contesting a knock decision given by ref Steve Ganson.

Despite Hull's numerical advantage Warrington started the second half far brighter than their opponents. The Wolves drew level on 45 when Monaghan fed Briers near the line, Hicks added the two points.

Broughton grabbing his first try for Hull put them back in front after finishing off a sweeping left to right move on 52 minutes. Tickle failed to add the extras, unaware how costly that was at the time.

Penny scored his second on the hour mark after taking Monaghan's pass to pull Warrington level again. The try coming from Briers' one on one ball steal under the sticks from Berrigan hands. Hicks couldn't tag on the extras from the touchline.

Hicks added a penalty on 68 to nudge the Wolves ahead, 18 ' 16. The game was set for a grandstand finish, Yeaman took Sing's pass on 76 minutes to score and seemingly keep the two points at the KC Stadium. Tickle converted to give Hull a four point advantage with only three minutes on the clock.

Warrington tried in vain to get out of their own 40 but with 60 seconds on the clock the game looked lost. However, Warrington were awarded a penalty for offside and Briers kicked into the Hull twenty metre zone. Then, with time up, King took a Monaghan pass to power over the line and send the Wolves fans wild behind the sticks. Hicks was given the task of adding two points to win the game from the touchline. 11,700 Hull fans did their best to put him off, but the former Manly flyer added the extras and gave the Wolves a famous win.
