Murray Joins Wolves Academy
Front rower Daniel Murray has recently signed up to the Warrington Wolves Academy having come through the club's scholarship sponsored by Warrington Collegiate.
Daniel is a tough, unrelenting player who has impressed coaches and teammates alike. He hit the ground running when he first joined the Wolves scholarship two years ago and with a willing to learn and impress through his actions he will only get better.
Daniel was named U16 Player of the Year for 2012 and received the Parry Gordon trophy from the Past Players Association at the end of the season. Daniel has agreed a contract with Warrington until November 2014 and is looking forward to making his mark on the new-look U19 academy.
He played his junior rugby for his community club Orrell St James in Wigan remaining loyal to his. Since joining the Wolves he has taken on board all of the education he has received and has a desire within him to succeed.
On receiving the Parry Gordon trophy Daniel said: "It was amazing. I wouldn't have thought two years ago when I got the scholarship that I'd actually have the chance to get a contract and also be named Player of the Year. It was the first time I've been speechless in my life. It rates as one of my biggest achievements and hopefully there's many more to come."
He added: "All of the coaches here put everything into you and try to get the best out of you. I'm really enjoying it and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Tyrone's advice to us has been to work hard and train hard. You need to put the effort in and take the sacrifices and you can get the level you want to be at. Recently Chris Hill came from Leigh to Warrington and has now been picked in the Dream Team which shows how good you can be if you work hard. My ultimate goal is to reach the first team."
The Wolves are delighted to sign the young prop, with Danny Fullerton, Daniel's head coach on the scholarship the first to congratulate him: "Daniel was one of our consistent trainers and performers all year and he fully deserved his Player of the Year award as well as the opportunity to sign for the best club in Super League. What pleases me the most is how much Daniel has improved on his skills over the past two years and how much his game has developed, he has always been a tough player but now, with the ball skills he has learnt he has added much more facets to his game.
"Daniel is a cracking young man who is always prepared to go the extra yard" commented Ben Lazenby "He is enthusiastic, willing to learn and always wants to develop and improve himself, but most importantly he is a good person and is exactly the type of person that we want at Warrington Wolves. Whilst he works hard he also knows how to make sessions fun and enjoyable and that comes across in every session he takes part in. We are delighted to sign Daniel as he will add his qualities to the squad both on and off the pitch. He is a physical player who will relish the step up to the U19 Academy and is looking forward to the task ahead of him."
More academy player features to follow over the next few weeks.
