Multi Skills

In September 2004, the Wolves joined up with William Beamont School Sports Partnership to deliver 'Multi-Skills' activities throughout Warrington.

William Beamont School Sports Partnership has an infrastructure of 6 secondary, 32 primary and 3 special schools within Warrington. The aim of the partnership is to increase participation in PE and school sport amongst school age children.

As part of a £95K 'Big Lottery' grant awarded in July 2004, the School Sports Partnership has been running out of school activity clubs at these 41 schools. These are aimed at encouraging those pupils who do not normally embrace physical activity to 'get involved and have a go'. This funding has allowed the wolves to offer improved financial incentives to its community coaches.

The multi-skills clubs have been delivered by coaches from the Wolves Community Development Department, and are aimed at Year 3 and 4 pupils with lower physical literacy than their peers, and pupils who do not normally participate in sports. During the sessions, the children take part in a range of fun activities designed to improve their agility, balance, coordination and core games skills. The pupils questionnaires completed over the last year have highlighted a positive response and have shown an increase in skill, self-esteem and willingness to participate in physical activity.

Upon completion of the course the children have been invited to attend a Wolves' Super League game and parade around the pitch to celebrate their achievement. Their parents, families and friends have also been encouraged to share the experience through special ticket offers.

Pupils from Latchford CE sum up what they thought of the Multi-skills club below-

Bethany Taylor

I thought multi-skills were very good and made me throw better, catch better, play tennis better, run faster and jump longer. The people who ran multi-skills (Kath and Mark) I would like to say a great big thank you. If multi-skills were not on, I don't know what I would do on a Tuesday afternoon. My sports skills wouldn't be as improved. I give the sports club a mark out of 10 and that is 9. I enjoyed multi-skills very much and hope it is on again.

Abby Vickers

I enjoyed throwing the ball at the target. I learnt and improved my running and throwing skills. I really like the multi-skills club. I hope it is on again before I move. The people who ran the club I want to say a very big thank you. I think that Alex was the best jumper in the club. I think my skills out of 10 are 9/10. I think my learning skills were 10/10. I enjoyed the warm ups.

MULTI SKILLS 2007

The Foundation coaching staff are a talented bunch. Not only do they possess the qualifications to enable them to coach Rugby but they are also trained to deliver the Warrington Sports Partnership Multi Skills Programme.

The aim of this is to encourage the less active pupils, offering them a safe, friendly and fun environment to 'av a go!'

The Multi Skills Programme works with 32 Primary Schools and 3 Special Schools during each academic year.
