Mccarthy Geared Up For Gambia

tyrone tshirtWolves' second rower Tyrone McCarthy hit the local headlines back in August with a unique fundraiser ahead of his trip to Africa this month.

Tyrone gave supporters the chance to win the once in a lifetime opportunity to shave, design or colour his infamous beard helping to raise funds for this worthwhile trip.

The winner of the draw chose to dye Tyrone's beard bright green which you certainly couldn't miss out on the pitch in Round 25.

Tyrone will travel to Gambia tomorrow Wednesday, 21st November, as part of GIVEE (Groups Involved in Voluntary Educational Experiences). The money raised from the draw went towards supporting this trip as well as going some way to providing the schools with kits and resources. Whilst over in Africa Tyrone will provide general support to the communities as well as teaching rugby in schools to the children and their teachers to help in their development.

ABC123 Day Nursery are the proud sponsor of Tyrone and have shown their support with a generous donation providing the travelling volunteers with branded t.shirts to wear throughout their visit.

Hayley Russell, director of ABC 123 Day Nursery Ltd, said: "We are glad to help Tyrone out with his trip to Africa and will always support him. We hope that his trip to Gambia is a great success and that our donation can go some way to helping. It will be an eye opener for him and I'm sure he will get a lot from it. We can't wait to hear all about it. Best wishes from us all at ABC 123 Day Nursery."

Tyrone added: "We are extremely grateful to ABC123 for their support and donation ahead of our trip. The t.shirts will help to unite all the volunteers travelling over. I am looking forward to the trip and to hopefully going some way to making a difference. It will be rewarding to go over there and help the local communities, and I would once again like to thank all those supporters who made contributions to my fundraiser earlier this year."

Andrea Thomson, GIVEE Co-ordinator and Trustee, added: "Through Tyrone's funding efforts we will be able to offer employment to two of the four volunteer sport coaches we will be working with during our time there. The sports coaches will continue to bring children and young people together through sport and offer new opportunities to a developing community."
