Management On Tour
Warrington Wolves management joined the team on their pre-season training camp in Australia earlier this week.
Their visit Down Under will see them take in several NRL clubs and more to gain an insight into their sporting business culture.

Since arriving in Sydney the management have spent time at the ARL club Sydney Swans (right) taking in a tour of their facility and have paid a visit to the NRL speaking to various members of their marketing, CRM, membership and community teams followed by a tour of their brand new offices which they will share with all other RL bodies such as NSWRL, Australia National team, ARL and RL development.
Today, Friday, has seen their first visit to an NRL club. Dave Hutchinson, Wolves' sales and marketing controller, sent this update:
"We've been to Newcastle Knights and spent the day with their CEO Matthew Gidley and some of his general managers learning about how they run their business, which is actually part of the Hunter Group who also own the soccer team Newcastle Jets. Both teams are run under the one roof so to speak commercially from a retail, membership and sponsorship perspective. But obviously separate CEOs and performance structures. It was interesting to see how much more powerful a proposition they have with all-year-round sport for a sponsor with both RL and soccer.
"We also spent time with their general manager for sponsorship, formerly of Manchester Utd, who explained how the needs of sponsors varied in a heavily industrial area such as the Hunter Region and how they adapt packages to suit the needs of their partners.
"Most pleasing was how well the Wolves faired at retail versus the Australian market where we would be the highest shirt selling team on our figures. However an NRL team replica does retail at $160 !!!
"We picked up some great info and will be trying to put some of it into practice back home.
"Matthew treated us to lunch at his local beachside cafe where we saw Dolphins 50yards out from the shore where earlier that week there had been a shark attack!
Not quite the river Mersey eh !
