Labour Trio Press for Stadium Decision
Warrington's two labour MP's Helen Southworth and Helen Jones have written toRt., Hon. John Prescott MP, pressing the case for the new stadium for the Warrington Wolves. The Letter states: "We are writing to express to you our total and unequivocal support for Warrington Wolves Rugby League Club getting a new stadium."Rugby League plays a central role in the public life of Warrington. Formed 121 years ago, the Wolves are integral to the cultural, sporting and economic future of our town. It would be a tragedy for Warrington if we were ever to lose our club."The MP's - along with Labour council leader John Gartside - are urging the Department of Environment, Transport and the Regions to conclude the enquiry into the new stadium plans as quickly as possible."We hope that, given the importance of this planning application to the club, your department will deal with this matter speedily and efficiently, ensuring that the club, its fans and the people of Warrington, are given a decision over the application as soon as possible."Although planning law alone dictates the outcome of such decisions, the Labour trio are hopeful that the DETR will give the stadium the green light. The letter concludes with a personal plea to Mr. Prescott , the MP for Hull:"As a fan of Hull Kingston Rovers, we are sure that you will understand that the Wolves are close to our hearts, and the hearts of thousands of fellow Warringtonians."
