Joe Egan
Warrington Wolves are saddened to learn of the death of Joe Egan at the age of 93. Joe had been the last survivor of the "Indomitables" Tour of Australia in 1946.
After a long and successful playing career at Wigan, Joe coached at Leigh, Wigan and Widnes before arriving at Wilderspool in 1968. His Warrington coaching career got off to a great start with a 23-12 win at Central Park on New Year's Day 1969. Wigan had been unbeaten in their last 14 matches, Warrington, however, were starting to suffer from financial problems. A few weeks later the club were forced to sell Keith Ashcroft to Wigan for £3,000. Ashcroft sadly passed away the week before Egan.
As results started to suffer, Egan resigned as coach in October 1970. Warrington won 32 and drew 4 of the 73 games that they played under his tutelage.
Joe Egan visited The Halliwell Jones Stadium in August 2009 as part of the RFL's pre-match build up to the Challenge Cup Final with Huddersfield Giants.
