Holroyd Steps Up
Prop forward Robert Holroyd has signed for Warrington Wolves' Academy having come through the club's Scholarship scheme sponsored by Warrington Collegiate.
The Wolves' Scholarship allows players to express themselves and learn under the tutelage of expert youth coaches, conditioners and educators to develop in four key areas: Footballing Skills, Athletic Development, Personal Qualities and Mental Skills.
Robert has been part of the Scholarship for the past year and within that time has seen significant improvements in his athletic ability, his skill level and has made big changes in his lifestyle that have helped him achieve these improvements.
He comes from a family of professional rugby league players and his father Bob Holroyd played professional rugby league predominantly at Bradford. Robert played his community club rugby for Siddal ARLFC in Halifax and has come on leaps and bounds since joining the Wolves' Scholarship.
Wolves' director of youth development John Bastian said: "Robert is a very enthusiastic and honest young man. He is working hard on his physical development and there have been some significant improvements in this area.
"Big, strong, tough prop forwards can be hard to find, in Bob Holroyd we have a young man with some real potential."
Tommy Gleeson, Wolves' Yorkshire Scout, added: "When Robert first came here he wasn't the finished product. He's now put a lot of hard work in and at the end of each training session he does extras, which has seen him improve so much. I expect to see big things from him because he's got the size and since joining us in October last year his fitness has improved. He's a very quiet lad but he'll do really well here as his attitude is fantastic."
Making the step up to the U19 is going to be a big effort but Robert is looking forwards to the task and forcing his way into that starting line-up.
