Grix: Good record to have
Ahead of tonight's derby match against St Helens, utility player Simon Grix talks to WolvesTV about his new contract, the season so far and the upcoming play-offs.
"I think I've always been a regular it's just normally been split up by injuries whereas this year - touch wood - I've been alright. I've been pretty happy with my form and have played the majority of games. I've played across the field and managed to take the form with me.
"I had two years left (on my contract) anyway but we've got a couple of the more senior players moving on and there's a group in the middle who will become the senior players in the next few years. I think it's important to keep the continuity. We know this squad, we know this club and how we work. It's good that a couple of good friends have signed again as well and we are all going to be here together. It's quite an achievement as well considering the setbacks I've had along the way so I'm happy."
The team had a break away from fixtures last weekend and Simon, for one, is keen to get back out on the pitch.
"The break was both good and bad. There's nothing worse than finishing on a game like that (against Widnes) and having to stew over it rather than getting straight back out there. But it was nice to get a break leading into play-off time with some tough fixtures coming up so it will probably do us the world of good."
Looking ahead to tonight he said: "It's a good record for us to have - our victories - at Langtree Park. Saints are getting into some form and we did put a bit of a score on them last time and ended up running away with it. They'll want to put that right and we'll want to put Widnes right, which makes for a good fixture.
"They've changed quite a bit this year. Lomax is back fit, who is a threat for them. They've got a good forward pack and are good across the park; they are as strong side. Saints are getting back to some form. They've had an indifferent year, much like us, but are getting back to where they need to be at the right time."
