Fit Kidz

Fitkids seeks to build on the excellent practice which exists from previous Sportsmatch awards. The main aim of the programme is to help young people get more from their involvement in sport and physical activity. This will be achieved through an ongoing development programme seeking to improve levels of physical literacy. Primary school pupils in Warrington - a town which contains areas of urban deprivation and recreationally - deprived rural areas - are the target of this initiative.

The concept of the Long Term Athlete Development plan (LTAD) represents a logical approach to the development of young people in order that they reach their sporting potential and to maintain an active lifestyle.

The FUNdamentals, which provide the focus of this project, are crucial in order to put in place the 'sporting building blocks' for future success and continued participation.

The emphasis of this phase is on the development of physical literacy - movement skills, such as running, jumping, throwing, kicking agility, balance and hand-eye coordination, that are at the core of most sports.
The acquisition of basic motor skills, fitness and fun are central themes of the FUNdamentals rather than an emphasis on competition and winning.

All of the town's 72 primary schools have, and continue to, take part in this physical acitivity programme.

PHYS KIDS AT BRADSHAW PRIMARY

On Tuesday 20th February, Wolfie paid a special visit to congratulate pupils at Bradshaw Primary School.

Pupils have been taking part in a wide range of sports - including Tennis, Football and Relay Racing - during their lunch break as part of the Phys Kids Programme, aimed at keeping children active while also providing the opportunity to try new activities.

Children receive a star as a reward for each activity and Wolfie presented Certificates to 4 pupils who have achieved the wonderful total of 50 stars.

FIT KIDZ 2006/2007

This academic year to date, The Foundation Coaches have delivered Rugby League coaching to over 40 schools, reaching over 2,500 pupils, helping them to enjoy sport and physical activity.

Combined with the fun element of participation, the Coaches are also trained to deliver important lifestyle messages.

PRIMROSE AND BLUES DAY

A Primrose and Blues day (non-uniform day) was held at Oakwood Avenue Community Primary School on Friday 11th May 2007 to help raise money for the foundation. Wolfie also joined in with the fun and games and the school raised £219! This donation will help go towards the delivery of the Fit kids rugby programme, Multi skills coaching, healthy living seminars and Bullying programmes for the school.

2007 MAYOR'S TAG FESTIVAL

Over 160 children took part in this year's Mayor Tag Festival held on Bank Park on May 9th. The teams competed against each other on four pitches, with Wolves star, Ben Westwood, present as an interested spectator.

The ultimate game was played on the front lawn of the Town Hall in front of the Golden Gates. The Mayor of Warrington, Councillor Linda Dirir, watched and commented that she was "overwhelmed to see so many children taking part in a great sporting activity, all having fun with the emphasis on taking part, not winning at all costs".

The Mayor presented the Bank Quay Cluster Fair Play Award to Evelyn Street Primary School. Individual Fair Play Awards were also given to Charlie Dutton from Stockton Heath from the boys teams and Chelsea Hughes from St. Bridget's from the girls teams. These Awards are presented not for being the best, but in recognition of how much fun the children had during the Festival.

Congratulations to Bewsey Lodge Primary School who took home the impressive Mayor's Festival Trophy. Two representatives from the school were thrilled to have this presented to them by The Mayor and Ben Westwood.

With Wolfie on hand and the children having the opportunity to showcase the skills they have acquired through their 5 weeks of coaching, the day was once again a huge success.
