The Halliwell Jones Stadium once again played host to the Rugby League Schools Finals showcasing four entertaining matches from the highest qualifying teams in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10.
The Year 7 Final was contested between William Beamont and Cardinal Newman. Both sides finished at the top of the Year 7 league. Eager to get their hands on the Joe Boscoe trophy, William Beamont ran in as 26-0 winners. The man of the match was selected by Chair of LiveWire Alan Yates and was presented to Jack Wright from William Beamont High School.
Great Sankey and Sir Thomas Boteler competed for the Year 8 John Bevan trophy. Great Sankey were outright winners and stole the show with a 62-4 victory. Man of the match for this fixture was Liam Hampson from Great Sankey, who was selected by Mike Nicholas and Tyrone McCarthy.
The Year 9 Final saw Great Sankey take on William Beamont, with Great Sankey claiming the Paul Cullen trophy. Paul was in attendance to select the man of the match, and Louis Wainwright of Great Sankey was chosen for his involvement in the 24-12 victory.
The final fixture of the evening was the Year 10 Final, which saw a close contest between Cardinal Newman and Penketh competing for the Lee Briers trophy. Newman ran away at the end of the game with a 24-16 victory. Alex Stott from Newman was selected as the man of the match, chosen by Wolves' director of youth development John Bastian.
Lee Westwood, community Rugby League coach, said: "Last year's finals were a huge success with the players involved still talking about it to this day and this year has been no different with some fantastic Rugby League on display from all the teams. It is great to be able to hold these fixtures at the prestigious venue of The Halliwell Jones Stadium and to have Warrington legends past and present on hand to present the trophies is great for everyone involved."
John Bastian, Wolves' director of youth development, added: "It was great to see all the Warrington junior players experiencing playing Rugby League at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.
"All of the finals were well contested, but the main priority was that the young players were enjoying themselves playing Rugby League. Credit needs to be given to the schools and the community Rugby League staff for the hard work that they put in during the lead up to the finals."
