Cooper: Itching To Get Going
Local prop Mike Cooper looked ahead to the new season when speaking at last week's media day.
With only three weeks until the start of the new campaign Mike reflects on training so far and ahead to the warm weather camp in Tenerife.
"We've only been back in as a full squad for the last couple of weeks so it's only now that we are starting to feel like we are getting back ready for the start of the new Super League season. Playing on Boxing Day was a tough game as it always is against Widnes and the rivalry but it's all getting a bit serious now.
"The weather outside is awful and it's really hard to get some good ball work done but we can spend three, four, five hours out on the training field when we are in Tenerife because of the weather and get some swimming done and get some really hard training in which is what we need."
When the team return from their week away preparation will continue ahead of Ben Westwood's Testimonial game.
"What a great game we'll have against Wigan here. I don't think you could have picked a better side for us to play against for a testimonial so I hope plenty of people come down to support him. It'll be good preparation for us as it will have been the only game as a full team. Even though training is competitive it's always nice to get a good run out.
"Everyone's itching to get going now, Castleford will be a tough game on the Sunday. We want to get out there and put right what went wrong last year getting beaten in the Grand Final."
And on a personal note for the year ahead Mike says: "I'd just like to have another good season again, get through injury free and hopefully if I get to play international rugby at the end of the year or make the step up I'll be more than happy to do so."
