Carvell: Raring To Go
Garreth Carvell is now back in training after the off-season during which he spent some time on the stage!
"The first weeks back in training are always a bit tough until your body gets used to it again and I'm not 21 any more! But I can't wait for the season to start again. Pre-season is just the build up, it's when we get back on that pitch, I'll be happy then."
The training squad is relatively unchanged this year with many of the young lads getting a chance to test themselves.
"They are all settling in really well. The young kids just slot in. It is a credit to the way they've been coached in the under 20s, that they can just make the step up and fit right in. That's the sort of philosophy that they have at the club here and it seems to be working. It would be good to see some of them make their debuts next year."
Garreth is looking forward to a tough season ahead: "They'll be a few tough games in there now with many clubs signing well. I'm looking forward to playing every single game but if I had to pick any games out it would be the finals, both of them this time please!
"I wish we could start a bit later when it gets a bit warmer but never mind we can't have too much time off! (laughs) It will be good to get back out in front of the home crowd and get the people cheering for rugby rather than the pantomime!"
And on his stage performance in Ben Westwood's Testimonial pantomime he added: "It was good but quite a bit of work actually. We spent most nights down at the college rehearsing our lines and building sets. I have nothing but respect for the actors as it's much more nerve-racking than walking out at Wembley. But it was really enjoyable."
