Carvell: Spring in our step
Forward Garreth Carvell is relishing this week's Cup clash with rivals Huddersfield Giants as the anticipation builds ahead of Sunday afternoon.
"That's the nature of the cup. It's so exciting. If you come and perform just for that one week you are through to the next round so it's anyone's game. It's certainly exciting; we've got the confidence that we've won it in previous years so I'm looking forward to another tough game. There's no doubt it's going to be tough; I think they (Huddersfield) are laying down a challenge for the forwards from the games that we've had in the past and this is something all the boys are looking forward to. Everyone's got a spring in their step and I think the weather helps."
The Wolves and Giants have enjoyed some high intensity meetings in recent times and Garreth, for one, is aware of the quality in the Wolves' opposition this weekend.
"They've got a team full of class players and they are well coached. They've maintained the full team almost from injury so it's going to be a tough game. They've just leapfrogged us in the table as well and they are where they deserve to be; they've been brilliant all year and it's something we are not taking lightly. Previous form and previous games all go out of the window; the Challenge Cup is a knock out competition and we don't want to be knocked out.
"There's a handful (of players) to choose from; I think Shaun Lunt has been really good for them this year. He's come from a loan spell at Leeds, decided to go back to Huddersfield when he could have stayed at the champions which was quite a bold move and it's paid dividends. He's played fantastically well for the club and he makes a big difference to their team. There's the halfbacks in Robinson and Brough too; Brough's kicking game is second to none and Robinson can take some of that control as well. There are people all over the park; good centres, a formidable pack and the other Grix brother at fullback. They are a good team and are right where they should be."
Garreth cannot emphasise enough, the importance of the part you play on game day.
"It's like having an extra man on the field. The fans have been fantastic all year. They are the best set of supporters that I've ever had the pleasure of playing in front of. The supporters getting behind us is immense and will make all the difference in the end."
As we enter knock-out rugby this weekend there is everything to play for.
"We'd like to go for the double. All pre-season we built into that, from early on. We are at the Quarter Final stage now and there are only six games of the league left as well so it's getting to the stage where ‘enough talking let's go and do it'. I think we've got the team and the right attitude to go and do that."
