Briers shares his #magicmoment
Wolves talisman Lee Briers is the latest Super League star to share his favourite memories of past Magic Weekends ahead of this year's two-day extravaganza which returns to the Etihad Stadium, Manchester on May 25 and 26.
Briers has highlighted the 36-34 victory against Huddersfield Giants in 2008 as one of his favourite Magic Weekend moments, when the Wolves came from 22-6 down at half-time to complete an extraordinary comeback.
"I remember at half-time we were down by a lot of points," said Briers. "We had a really positive half-time speech; Paul Cullen was the coach and he was really positive and said ‘look we're still in this game'.
"We worked hard and totally reversed the first half. It was a good performance and a great experience.
"I remember the crowd went mental when we won. At the end I was near the Warrington fans on the side-line and it just went crazy."
Briers has spent large portions of this season watching Warrington in action from the sidelines due to injury, but his recent return will see him in contention to face former club St Helens on Saturday May 25 when they will be hoping to avenge the 10-22 defeat suffered in March.
"We're not going to be thinking about it as being a big stage and getting our own back on Saints, it's just another two points.
"It's great that the concept has taken off, it's in the right place now in Manchester and it was a lot better last year than it has been over the past few years. It's so close to everyone; you get more fans and more atmosphere."
There are tickets still available for the Magic Weekend, we currently have tickets for the middle tier (Category 1), which is reserved seating available from WolfWare at the stadium, WolfWare Online or by calling the ticket office on 08448 11 11 76 (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm)
