Big games beckon for England hopeful Ratchford
England's Stefan Ratchford says Rugby League World Cup 2013 will mark the culmination of a long period of building for the Elite Training Squad.
Though the Wolves will not take part in this Saturday's Tetley's Challenge Cup Final, Ratchford and his team-mates are still aiming for success in the Super League play-offs.
Ratchford is one of a number of players within the Wolves squad also chasing international success this autumn.
"In 2010 when the England Knights were put in place, I think it signalled the start of a new chapter for England, and it served to push us in our preparations," he said
"There was a big emphasis on winning the game against the Exiles and we were very pleased to do that. It's been a massive year so far, and hopefully that will continue.
"RLWC2013 will signal the end of a long road for us, and we're all desperate to be successful in the competition."
Ratchford also hopes that his ability to cover a number of positions will boost his chances of tying down a place in Steve McNamara's squad for the match against Australia on October 26.
The match forms part of a spectacular Opening Ceremony at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, and Ratchford is one of many pushing hard to be a part of it. He believes that success in the games remaining for Warrington can boost his chances.
"Hopefully I can get into the squad on the back of my ability to cover a number of positions. I've played a few positions, and maybe I will for England, but you can't look too far ahead.
"I'm concentrating on playing well at Warrington, and us doing well as a club. If Warrington are successful then that will give me an excellent chance of being in the squad at the end of the year.
"I try to focus on myself, and as a team we focus on ourselves and what we can do well."
