Atkins: A Memory To Last Forever
Warrington Wolves will take on the South Sydney Rabbitohs in their pre-season friendly Down Under tomorrow, Saturday 28th January (6pm Australia, 7am UK).
Centre Ryan Atkins tells us how tough the training has been during the pre-season camp and what an experience it will be to play against the Rabbitohs tomorrow.
"It's been brilliant. Everyone's really dug in. Last week, our second week, was really tough and I'd say it was the hardest week of training of my career so far, but I know we will all benefit from it."
When asked which of the training sessions he has enjoyed the most Ryan found it hard to name one.
"Enjoyed? I don't think I've enjoyed any of them. It's been a lot of pain, sweat and blood, and bad blisters in the first couple of days. But seriously, all the sessions have been tough but as soon as you finished them you felt like a million dollars. I really enjoyed the training with the Swans as I was able to work on my catching and get some advice from those who are elite at that kind of skill and hopefully I can put it into action this season."
And looking ahead to the game.
"Not many players can say they've done a three-week training camp in Australia with their club and played against an NRL side. It will be a memory that will last forever. I think we'll take a lot out of the game tomorrow. People are saying that it may be a bit close to the season travelling back, but we are a professional outfit and have been preparing very well for both. I feel this game against Rabbitohs will stand us in great stead for Hull as they are similar with a very big pack and are an aggressive side.
"I've not really focused on who is playing for them just as long as we play like we are capable of. But hopefully I get to go up against Kingy and pull his hair!"
