All Systems Go!Coach Paul Cullen looks forward to the start of Super League X with an away visit to the London Broncos on Sunday.IN THE OFF SEASON YOU HAVE RECRUITED 8 PLAYERS, WHAT ARE YOU HOPES FOR THEM?For their contributions individually and collectively to improve our performance in both competitions for the seasons ahead. YOU HAVE RECRUITED QUITE A FEW YOUNG PLAYERS: ANDY BRACEK, SIMON GRIX, CHRIS BRIDGE AND NICKY ROYLE AND UPGRADED TWO: STEVE PICKERSGILL AND PHIL BERRY. WHAT IS YOUR REASONING BEHIND THEIR SIGNING?To fill the void of players under the age of 21 who can positively contribute to the first team effort. The squad I inherited had too many older players who could not get a weekly run because of the age restrictions in the U21 competition. The entire squad can now have thefacility to get match fit and ready when the time comes.HOW DO YOU KEEP THE PRESSURE OFF THE YOUNG PLAYERS?A measured introduction in to a progressive side.WHAT IS A GOOD RECRUITMENT POLICY?One that works short-term, mid-term and long-term. The factors for our 2005 recruitment campaign included position specific, the budget and the20/20/30 rule.WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF WARM WINTER TRAINING?None of the sessions are frozen or flooded off.DO YOU TAKE A LOT FROM FRIENDLIES? IF SO WHERE YOU CONCERNED WITH THE SLOW START OF THE TEAM AGAINST SALFORD?Trials are a very important part of our preparation; where you can notonly learn about yourselves but the qualities of your opponents. We have found a very different Widnes team to last year and a much improved Salford team their styles of play have altered greatly from Tetley's Super League IX.WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR THE COMING SEASON?To simply improve our performance in both competitions. Whatever expectations that there are for the Wolves in 2005 I guarantee none willbe greater of the players and coaching staff.WHAT DO YOU THINK OF WIGAN SIGNING JEROME GUISSET?Our win against Wigan last year has obviously struck a cord.ANY REGRETS IN LETTING HIM GO?Only people with a degree in hindsight could have any regrets; budgets and 20/20/30 rule dictated the pace on our decisions.THE POWERGEN CHALLENGE CUP MADE THE MOVE TO LATER IN THE YEAR AND DOES NOT START UNTIL AFTER ROUND 8 OF SUPER LEAGUE ARE YOU GOING TO FIND IT HARD TO FOCUS ON BOTH COMPETITIONS?No harder than any other coach in Super League and as an ex player pre-Super League we were used to playing the rounds of the Challenge Cup mid season and the final being towards the end of the season. It is a challenge that we simply look forward to. WE TRAVEL TO LONDON THIS WEEKEND, THEY HAVE RECRUITED 11 PLAYERS IN THE OFF SEASON DO YOU THINK THAT IS AN ADVANTAGE PLAYING A TEAM WITH SO MANY NEW PLAYERS WHO HAVEN'T HAD TIME TO GEL?They have had exactly the same preparation time as we have had and the inclusion of so many ex-NRL players has to improve your playing stock. IT'S A TOUGH COMP THIS SEASON WITH TWO BEING RELEGATED TO MAKE ROOM FOR UTC NEXT YEAR. DO YOU THINK THAT THIS ADDS MORE PRESSURE TO TEAMS WHO NORMALLY FIND THEMSELVES IN THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE TABLE?We still remember the pressure of being involved in a relegation fight and are absolutely determined that we won't be involved in this one.DO YOU THINK THE NEW RULING OF ANNOUNCING YOUR SQUADS 72 AND 24 HOURS BEFORE KICK OFF IS GOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO YOUR PREPARATION?Not at all to us as it is not to dissimilar to the way we have prepared for the last two years.WHAT IS THE INJURY SITUATION, ARE YOU STARTING THE SEASON WITH A CLEAN SHEET?Only Daryl Cardiss with his hamstring and Chris Bridge with his ankle are not available for selection from our 26 man squad.WHO IS YOUR TIP FOR THE SUPER LEAGUE TITLE THIS SEASON?The team that finds the formula to take it off Leeds.AND FOR RELEGATION?Any two of the other eleven!
