Darryl will not extend contractDarryl Van de Velde announced today that he would not be seeking extension to his current contract, which expires at the end of this season. Darryl will be returning to Australia at the end of the season. He has chosen this time to announce his departure to give the Board the opportunity to appoint his successor for Super League VII. He advised the Board that this would also give them the opportunity to re-sign the clubs' core players for the following season.Darryl Van de Velde does not wish to comment any further at this stage other than, "My main focus from now until the end of the season, is to maintain a winning sequence and to improve the team's position in the league."Over the past three seasons under the control of van de Velde the Wolves have climbed the Super League table from 10th in Super League III to just outside a play-off place in 6th last season.

Briers in OriginWolves stand off Lee Briers has been selected for the Lancashire squad for the Origin: The Game 2001 on 5th June 2001, at Headingley.Briers made an impact on the Lincoln World Cup 2000 in a strong partnership with Iesytn Harris, will they revive that partnership for the Origin?Lee joined Warrington in 1997 from neighbours St Helens, 1999 has been his most successful year for the club amassing 196 points from 83 goals, 6 tries and six field goals. Lee looks on target to beat that total this season with 9 tries and 40 goals (108 points) from 13 appearances.
Round 10 Team NewsWith last weeks opportunity to rise into sixth place sadly lost the Wolves have a match in which they play a side that is below them in the table but able to play some stunning rugby to a high degree. The two teams immediately above the Wolves, Castleford (on nine points) and London (on ten points), face each other this afternoon but only a runaway victory by the homeside would give us any chance of increasing a place this evening with a -51 points deficit. With the Public Inquiry in full swing and the likelihood of the Inspector visiting the match the game is under more scrutiny than usual, and two important points are up for grabs.Squad:HunteSmythLoveSibbitPennyBriersLangerMasellaClarkeNutleyMercerBusbyNikauSubs.AlsteadMcCurrieGuissetKidwellThe return of Lee Penny to the squad after last week ruling himself out still unfit is a boost. Also straight in on loan from London Broncos at hooker is Jon Clarke who has taken over from the injured Dave Highton.Dave Highton is likely to be out for the next 8 weeks with his facial fracture but is looking to get back into the team as soon as possible and has been training with the first team squad. Steve Georgallis, who impressed with his workrate and commitment, is looking to be available for the last three games of the season and is anxious to get back to some training.
Clarke On LoanThe Wolves have secured a two month loan deal with London Broncos for hooker Jon Clarke. Clarke, formerly with Wigan Warriors, was last years first choice hooker for the Broncos before being put back to the reserves by the signing of Jason Hetherington in the closed season.Broncos Coach Tony Rea commented, "IÆm sure with more regular game time he will prove to be a very valuable player in the Warrington squad. I think it would also be a good idea for England selectors to keep an eye on him because he would never let anyone down."
Gee Out for SeasonWarrington Wolves prop; Andrew Gee faces the rest of the season out due to injury. Gee Gee, as he is popularly known injured his left shoulder in a tackle against London Broncos at the weekend. Andrew came back from a right shoulder reconstruction pre-season to Super League VI.Andrew Gee is due to fly home to Australia for a shoulder reconstruction at the end of May.Head Coach, Darryl Van de Velde commented, "It is a very disappointing injury to Gee Gee, and to happen at this time of the season is just bad luck for him and the team. Andrew will return to Australia at the end of the month for the operation and we will see how it goes from there."Andrew Gee released the following statement, "I am returning home for a shoulder operation and I will be out for rest of the season. I will assess the situation from there. I have never had a shoulder injury before and I have now had two in twelve months. But that is rugby league for you."
