A Message To The Fans
Greater Manchester Police has recorded a video message for rugby fans ahead of this weekend's Rugby Super League Final in Manchester.
The final between Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves, which kicks off at 6pm at Old Trafford Football Ground on Saturday 5 October 2013, is expected to attract more than 60,000 supporters.
Event Commander Superintendent John Graves, who has recorded a video message for fans, said: "Greater Manchester Police has now policed this fixture for several years and it is always a day that is a pleasure for officers to be able to work on with the Rugby Football League, MUFC Stadium Safety Team and the fans.
"In previous years, there has been a fantastic atmosphere at the stadium, with the vast majority of supporters enjoying themselves and being true ambassadors for the sport. We intend to ensure that does not change this year and as always, officers will be on hand to ensure people stay safe and that it's a day to remember for everyone.
"We are advising those travelling to the game to plan their journey well in advance and leave plenty of time to get there - with the kick off at 6pm there is likely to be congestion around the city centre.
"Keep any valuables safely out of view when leaving your cars and also, please buy your tickets early to avoid disappointment and do not leave it until the day.
"There is an on-street drinking ban in place around the stadium in Trafford and fans are also asked not to try and bring alcohol into the stadium itself. Once inside, while there will be plenty of places where fans can buy food and drink, they will not be allowed to have alcohol anywhere within the sight of the pitch - officers will be supporting grounds staff in enforcing those rules.
"Rugby League is a sport loved by many across the globe and can be enjoyed by the whole family. No matter what the result on the pitch is, I hope all fans have a fantastic day and enjoy it in the true spirit of the game."
