Hall of Fame - Jack Miller : 1926-1946

Jack Jack "Cod" Miller was born in Newton-le-Willows, Miller was 5ft 8in and 14st 6lbs prop forward.

Nicknamed the 'Cod' because he was a door-to-door fresh fish salesman, he went on to be the longest ever serving forward at the club.

He received £50 for signing on in April 1926 before making his debut on 11 December at St.Helens in an 11-21 defeat. He then went on to be a consistent performer with the club, appearing in over 30 matches for twelve consecutive seasons, a remarkable achievement considering his role in the team.

He played in all three losing Challenge Cup Finals of 1928, 1933 and 1936, and was unfortunate to get further losing medals in the Championship Finals of 1935 and 1937. He did however gain three Lancashire cup medals in 1929, 1932, and 1937, although he was sent off early in the last Final.He received £135 as part of a joint benefit with Sam Hardman in 1937/8.

His first game, after the end of the Second World War, was at Cumbrian amateurs Kells, in a narrow 3-0 victory in the first round first leg of the Challenge Cup, before moving on to play for Leigh.Representative appearances came for Great Britain (6) when he played in all three Tests against Australia in 1933, and was selected to Tour in 1936. He also played for England (4), and Lancashire (3).Jack Miller died on the 23 October 1978 aged 72. He made 526 appearances for Warrington, scoring 31 tries.
